Sleeping is hard work!

Okay... I just got to work, and I sure am tired
I couldn't get to sleep last night. My wife, on the other hand, has the ability to fall asleep on command. The glow from the bedside lamp normally hasn't even faded by the time her gentle snore can be heard.
I, on the other hand, sit there for seemingly ever thinking about completely random crap. Sometimes it's some programming thing from work... sometimes it's about the mmorpg we play... sometimes it's just completely off the wall...
I've been told when you go to sleep, you should try to think about nothing... and clear your thoughts... but that's not as easy as it sounds.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, did anyone else USED to have this problem until they magically solved it with some magic beans?

See how tired I am? I used the phrase, "on the other hand" in almost back-to-back sentences...

I do a simple relaxation exercise commonly used in meditation wherein you relax your body in sections untill you have completely relaxed. Clearing the mind is easier than you think. The problem is, a lot of peopleTHINK about clearing their mind which is self-defeating

Well yeah... it's a vicious cycle.
Okay, so I'm going to bed... I realize to myself that I need to clear my mind, etc... BOOM! You're already thinking about clearing your mind, and you're screwed.

I feel your pain Splateaux. I used to be one of those who was snoring by the time my head was an inch or two away from the pillow. Lately though I find myself staying awake for longer periods of time. And the thinking of nothing trick hasn't been much help. Hope you can find something that works for you.

My only "sleeping pill" which works most of the time, is the natural effect a guy gets after he's done taking care of this marital responsbilities
